August's Joomla User Group London Monthly Meetup (#JUGL)

  •   Guest Speaker: Krishna Gandhi

  •   Topic: Keeping the translator in the loop — how Joomla translation learns from every correction

  •   2nd Speaker: Adarsh Dubey

  •   Topic: Towards a More Modern Joomla Administrator: Ajaxified Backend and Autosaving

Aug 18

Join us for August's Joomla User Group London (#JUGL) meetup — an evening with this year's student developers shipping real work on Joomla, mentored through Herman Peeren's programmes.

Krishna Gandhi — Keeping the translator in the loop

Google Summer of Code 2026 student.

Machine translation gives you a draft in seconds, but every correction a volunteer translator makes is thrown away the moment they save. Krishna's project keeps them — distilling corrections into reusable rules (preferred terms, tone, names to leave untranslated) that feed the next translation, so it starts getting your community's terminology right. He'll run the whole loop live on a Joomla 6 site.

Adarsh Dubey — Towards a More Modern Joomla Administrator: Ajaxified Backend and Autosaving

Joomla Academy 2026 student.

His project makes the Joomla administrator quicker to work in: the backend refreshes only the parts of a page that change instead of reloading the whole thing, and it saves your work as you go — holding form state and editor context across each update. Adarsh will walk the architecture and the trade-offs, with live demos.

Project: ja26_ajaxified_backend

A possible third 'surprise' speaker is to be confirmed.

When

Tuesday 18 August 2026 · 19:00–21:00 BST (18:00–20:00 UTC) · online.
Krishna opens the evening, Adarsh follows, alongside the usual introductions, news and social wrap-up.

Description

July's mid-year JUGL meetup event:

Join us for this month's Joomla User Group London (#JUGL) meetup!

For July, we have two sessions from this year's Google Summer of Code students, presenting their contributions to the Joomla project

Reda Mohamed - One Article, Many Categories
Joomla articles are traditionally limited to just one category. Reda's Google Summer of Code project adds secondary categories, so a single article can be associated with multiple categories to better organise site content — appearing in each category's blogs, lists and search results, with article counts, filtering and custom fields all following along.

Weno Ndum Billy Hans - Workflows That Move Themselves
Editors move each article through Joomla's workflow by hand. Weno's Google Summer of Code project lets rules do it instead — articles advancing on their own, with a nudge when something needs a human. A workflow that runs itself.
