Description

The house was first built in around 1869 by the Wigan family who were City Bankers and Hop Merchants. Ownership of the mansion house passed to the Kent County Council (KCC) in 1949 upon the death of the last family member Lewis Wigan.

KCC, who still own the property to this day, initially used it as an annexe to the many academic facilities that are also at Oakwood Park, before it was converted to its current use as a conference and meeting centre. The property was also substantially upgraded ensuring modern facilities whilst retaining the character of its Victorian roots. The centre was further extended in 2007 increasing its overall capacity and improving facilities further.
